Here at SkinOwl, we’re all about winding down and rejuvenating our mind, body, and spirit. Cue The Parliament Project, our monthly dinner series where we focus on how self-work and selfcare are the basis of healthy and authentic relationships, balance, and success. But we also recognize that taking time for selfcare and self reflection once a month, is not enough to truly make an impact on our lives. Thankfully, we’ve got a number of different ways that you can come together with friends to unplug and rejuvenate yourselves.
Treat Yourself to an At Home Facial
Obviously, us gals here at SkinOwl are major fans of facials. We can all agree that they are some of the easiest ways to wind down after a long or stressful day. Even better than treating yourself to a professional facial, is treating yourself to an at-home facial with friends. Here’s our recommended strategy.
Start with our Beauty Steam. A facial steam is one of the easiest ways to both relax and heal your skin by removing impurities, bacteria, and dirt buildup from your pores. Plus, you’ll look glowing after just 5 minutes. After steaming, we recommend applying your favorite Beauty Drops and using your Beauty Wand to help tone and alleviate tension, mitigate undereye puffiness, and increase collagen production. Don’t forget to finish off with Beauty Whip for a boost of hydration.
Go on Hike & Picnic
For those of us who decompress in nature, we recommend getting out doors and doing something active. At the top of our list is gathering a group of friends and going on a hike. Spending time outdoors and exercising helps release endorphins and lower stress levels, making it a great way to unwind. Plus, you probably won’t have service, so hiking is a great way to unplug! We also recommend packing some snacks because who doesn’t like a good picnic as reward for the trip.
Friends Night In Movie Night
Some nights you just feel like staying in; we can all relate. The next time you’re looking for an at-home wind down session, try opting for a classic film, some delicious popcorn, and a snuggly blanket. Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, The Breakfast Club, and Clueless are some of team SkinOwl’s top favorites. We also like to throw a little turmeric on our popcorn for an antioxidant boost!
Create an Inspiration Board
If you’re anything like me, a fun creative project is an amazing way to unplug and take my mind off things. Mood and inspiration boards are some of my favorite projects. To make your own, gather a number of magazines, old and new, on all different topics. Then flip through each magazine, cutting out any image or word that speaks to you. Next organize your pictures; I like to organize them in categories such as love, work, life, home, future, etc. Not only will your assortment of pictures communicate a lot about yourself, it’s a great way to help you find your path when you don’t know your next step.
Pinterest is also a great tool for building inspiration boards.
Sign up for an Art Class or Workshop
Many of us need to decompress by creating something tactile. Whatever type of creative you are, taking time for your craft can be an amazing way to unplug. Try signing up for a weekly class or workshop that gives you the time to create while still holding you accountable for your weekly selfcare ritual.
Start a New Book with Friends
There is something truly amazing about reading a good book, especially when you have someone to share it with. If you think book clubs making reading feel like a chore, try starting a new book with a small number a friends. This way you each can take time to unplug each day by reading while still being able to share your experience together.
We believe that almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes. Including you. So make sure you’re taking the time between Parliament Project sessions to indulge in your favorite selfcare ritual.
