Skinny Tips: Strawberry Solutions

strawberries for skin health diy face scrub hair mask

Strawberries are not only deliciously juicy, but they are also wonderful for your skin and hair! Strawberries are full of alpha-hydroxy acids, which helps us slough off dead cells so that new, youthful skin is revealed. These wonderful berries can be used topically to help treat burns and other skin irritations due to their astringent and anti-inflammatory properties. In fact, strawberries were used by ancient Egyptians to treat acne. They are rich in salicylic acid; an ingredient found in many commercial acne creams, thus making them a great natural alternative to add into your skincare routine. Strawberries also help to tone the skin, lighten any pigmentation problems, and keep the skin smooth and supple!

Basically, stawberries are amazing!  Which is why we were so excited when we stumbled across these three DIY beauty tips involving strawberries.  So, the next time you have a few overripe strawberries in your refrigerator; don’t throw them away! Instead, use them in one (or all) of these at-home beauty tricks…

STRAWBERRY SUGAR SCRUB

Place 2/3 cup of sugar in a bowl and using a fork, thoroughly mix in 1 large strawberry. Add 1 tbsp of olive oil.

Massage the strawberry scrub into any dry areas, leave for 1 or 2 minutes and rinse.

FOR THOSE TIRED EYES

Just place a few strawberry slices under your eyes and relax for 10 minutes.  It will soothe tired eyes!

STRAWBERRY HAIR MASK

You can even give your hair extra shine with a strawberry hair conditioning mask.

Simply mash up 6 to 8 strawberries and a tablespoon of mayonnaise together in a bowl.

Shampoo your hair as usual. After rinsing, work the strawberry mask through and cover it with a plastic wrap and top it with a warm towel. Leave it for 15 minutes and rinse well.
