It makes perfect sense that we start every year with the disciplined and goal oriented energy of Capricorn. A new year comes with a new energy and theres the desire to set our intentions about how we are going to make the new year better than the last (read: new year’s resolutions!). The motivated and goal oriented Capricorn is here to give us the extra push to feel like we can really make it happen.
On December 21st, the sun moves into Capricorn’s rulership and we officially kick off the season of the goat! Capricorn is ruled by the planet Saturn, which is said to be the ‘divine father figure’ of our solar system because it has a way with showing us tough love. People dread their Saturn return in their late twenties for this reason; its when Saturn aligns to where it was when we were born and its said to be a time where our foundation is tested to make sure its as strong as can be. Capricorn and Saturn’s energy can best be described as motivated, self starting, practical and realistic.
A few days later on the 26th, we will have a new moon solar eclipse also in Capricorn as well. New moons already carry the sentiment of creating new goals and starting with a fresh slate, and this solar eclipse will boost that energy. It’s a time of new beginnings and this eclipse gives us the chance to make adjustments and necessary changes in our lives that can benefit us well into the new year.
Additionally, 2020 is the year of the metal rat in the Chinese zodiac which also carries an emphasis on new beginnings as well, and we’re entering a brand new decade on top of that. Nearly two weeks after this solar eclipse, there will be a full moon and lunar eclipse in emotional Cancer. Full moons are a time where we can see some of our intention from the previous new moon start to manifest. Now is the time to start fortifying your foundation into the new year!
On the third day of the year, Mars will enter philosophical Sagittarius. If there’s any projects we’ve been neglecting to start, this will be a time where we feel excited and passionate to begin. Mercury will be entering the reigns of Capricorn on the 28th and will bring our communication and thought processing into a clear and concise place. This aspect will carry the energy of the phrase “brutal honesty.” Capricorn doesn’t do nonsense so don’t expect much sugar coating to happen during this time. It will stay there for the majority of Capricorn season and on the 16th of January, Mercury will enter intellectual Aquarius.
On the 13th of January, Venus will enter dreamy Pisces. It will add a sense of affection and tenderness to our relationships and will be a great contrast to the tough love that Capricorn is known for.
We already carry so much anticipation, excitement, and drive towards the idea of a new year, and this year is no different. The energy to start anew will be in full swing as 2020 is carrying so much of the ‘new beginnings’ sentiment. Although new years resolutions usually carry a mixed reputation because many times we don’t keep them, tap into the determined Capricorn energy of the season to give yourself the strongest foundation to cultivate success into the new year.
