Skinny Tips: Coconut Oil Scalp Treatment

Coconut oil is so great for your hair! It moisturizes, nourishes, repairs, strengthens and boosts volume and shine! Basically, it’s an all in one hair must have!  We love this simple DIY Coconut Scalp Treatment that you can do at home tonight while you’re watching TV! So go ahead and give your hair a little nutty boost…

coconut oil scalp treatment

4 tablespoons coconut oil

2 tablespoons lemon juice

1 tablespoon grapefruit juice

3 to 4 drops SkinOwl Argan Infusion (optional)

Start on dry hair, and it makes no difference if it is clean or not.  Starting on top, place the brush on the scalp, rotate it across the scalp while pressing down and pull off in the end.  Repeat across the scalp, parting hair where necessary.  This will stimulate the blood circulation and loosen any dry skin scales.  This should feel good, don’t press so hard that it hurts.

Next part the hair down the center and apply the oil mixture to the scalp with the application brush or cotton ball.  Work in one inch sections down the sides of the head, then the back making sure the mixture covers the entire scalp.

Now give your scalp  a good massage.  Rub with your fingertips in a circular motion all over the scalp.  Leave the treatment on for about 20 minutes.

Finish it off with a good shampoo and conditioner.

Skinny Tips: Strawberry Solutions

strawberries for skin health diy face scrub hair mask

Strawberries are not only deliciously juicy, but they are also wonderful for your skin and hair! Strawberries are full of alpha-hydroxy acids, which helps us slough off dead cells so that new, youthful skin is revealed. These wonderful berries can be used topically to help treat burns and other skin irritations due to their astringent and anti-inflammatory properties. In fact, strawberries were used by ancient Egyptians to treat acne. They are rich in salicylic acid; an ingredient found in many commercial acne creams, thus making them a great natural alternative to add into your skincare routine. Strawberries also help to tone the skin, lighten any pigmentation problems, and keep the skin smooth and supple!

Basically, stawberries are amazing!  Which is why we were so excited when we stumbled across these three DIY beauty tips involving strawberries.  So, the next time you have a few overripe strawberries in your refrigerator; don’t throw them away! Instead, use them in one (or all) of these at-home beauty tricks…

Place 2/3 cup of sugar in a bowl and using a fork, thoroughly mix in 1 large strawberry. Add 1 tbsp of olive oil.

Massage the strawberry scrub into any dry areas, leave for 1 or 2 minutes and rinse.

Just place a few strawberry slices under your eyes and relax for 10 minutes.  It will soothe tired eyes!

You can even give your hair extra shine with a strawberry hair conditioning mask.

Simply mash up 6 to 8 strawberries and a tablespoon of mayonnaise together in a bowl.

Shampoo your hair as usual. After rinsing, work the strawberry mask through and cover it with a plastic wrap and top it with a warm towel. Leave it for 15 minutes and rinse well.
